5 Tips to Prioritize Your Time

Finding the system that works for you could be the holy grail of your leadership.

Do you start your day with a list of tasks that will take longer then you have hours in your day? Are you often getting pulled in multiple directions? Do you often find yourself putting off important tasks because something urgent came up?

1)    Have no more than three major tasks a day on your To Do list. – Yes, you will probably do more but what are the three tasks that are most important in moving your mission forward.  What are the three tasks that will make you feel most successful? Prioritize these.

2)    Schedule your tasks on your calendar.  – This is particularly important if your calendar is shared with others. By putting your tasks on your calendar you will actually have time to do them.

3)    Put everything on your calendar. – Meetings. Drive time. Lunch. Emails. Exercise. Errands. Everything!

4)    Add some white space. – Once you have put everything on your calendar, make sure you have some white space as a buffer in case something comes up.

5)    Find a system that works for you. - There are as many time prioritization systems as items on your To Do list. I use the Best Self Journal and Planner but you don’t need a special notebook you just need a system that works for you. Schedule time on your calendar to play with different systems.
